The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was founded in 1925 and is the second oldest university in Israel after the Technion. Since its foundation, the university has been home to some of the greatest minds of Israel and is continuing to excel academically both in Israel and overseas. According to a report published by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is the #1 University in Israel and 67th in the world overall. The Mathematics and Computer Science departments are particularly well known in the world and rank 16th and 27th respectively. Today, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has four fully functioning campuses and almost 100 research centers actively carrying out almost 4,000 research programs. Approximately one-third of all competitive research grants in Israel go to the distinguished professors of the University. The University’s technology transfer company, Yissum, has over 6,100 patents registered on almost 2,000 inventions made by University researchers and professors. The University is home to over 23,000 students and is a multidisciplinary institution of higher learning and research and scientific center of international recognition. Since 2002, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem has seen six of its professors awarded the Nobel Prize.
